Olga Mizin 97, of West Wyoming, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Providence Place Senior Living, Drums, PA.
Olga was born in Nesquehoning, PA, to the late Peter and Anna (Demko) Bunevich.
She graduated from Nesquehoning High School in 1945 and went on to attend Empire beauty school. She later started a career at Small Town Mfg. in West Wyoming, where she worked as a seamstress. Olga was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church (Wyoming) and actively involved with Christian Mothers and the Alter and Rosary Society. She transitioned with the merger of congregations and was a member of St. Monica’s (West Wyoming). She was also an active participant in the West Wyoming Senior’s group.
Olga was a devoted wife and proudly represented West Wyoming as first lady during the 20 years her husband served as mayor. Her love of baking and cooking was unprecedented. She was a master at whipping up a banquet, and one would never go home hungry when visiting her. She was a strong woman of faith who believed there is good in everyone. Wanderlust led her to many different parts of the world while traveling with her sister Helen. Olga loved flowers and music, she surrounded herself with them whenever possible. You would often see her relaxing to operas or dancing to polkas in her kitchen. Pussy Willows were her favorite, and rightfully so, as they represent resilience and the ability to bend without breaking in the face of adversity. Olga was a believer in luck and was often found picking up pennies and four-leaf clovers as well as playing the lottery. In true fashion, Olga was a generous soul, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand and give the shoes off her feet to those in need. While she may have moved on to her final resting place, her presence and influence will continue to be felt in the lives of those she touched.
In addition to her parents Olga is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John (2007), daughter, Carol Leoni (2022), brothers, John and Paul Bunevich, sisters, Mary Sandri and Helen Polakovic.
Olga is survived by her children, John (Gloria) Mizin of Frenchtown, NJ; Michael (Lakshmi) Mizin of Jermyn, PA; Diane (Paul) Dalo of Berwick, PA; Janice (Andre) Hansen of Johns Creek, GA; devoted family member Geno Leoni (son in-law) of Ft Wayne, IN, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Olga will be celebrated on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM, St. Monicas Parish, 363 W Eighth Street, W Wyoming.
Relatives and friends can call on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at St. Monicas Church.
