Michael Edward Balberchak

September 7, 1941 — January 19, 2021

Michael Edward Balberchak, 79, of Dallas Township passed away on January 19th while enjoying his daily walk through his Fernbrook neighborhood. Mike was the son of the late Betty and John Bottko of Oakland, MD.

A devoted, thoughtful and spiritual man, Mike is dearly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Rita Mae; along with their three children, son Michael Balberchak Jr., Huntington, NY, daughter Reneé and son-in-law David and grandchildren Noah, Nathan and Nolan Hislop of Macungie, and son Matthew Balberchak and his fiancée Dinah Latour, Houston, TX; sister Pam and David Spurrier and their family, Oakland, MD; sister-in-law, Jane and Joe Graff of Williamsport; dear friends Stella and Roy Carr of Fernbrook, and Richard Hislop, Stanley, NC; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and neighbors.

Born in Pringle, Mike, or “Mickey” in his youth, was a Larksville HS and Penn State University Wilkes-Barre graduate. Mike was a proud veteran, rising to the rank of Air Force Airman First Class before returning to civilian life. He worked at UGI Electric for 36 years and retired after a career marked by dedication and friendships. Mike was a devout member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish.

Mike loved to travel, patrol the sidelines at his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities, and roll up his sleeves to assist family, friends and neighbors. If you had snow, Mike had a shovel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made through St. Theresa’s Parish in Shavertown, PA, or through Meals On Wheels of Wyoming Valley, where Mike and Rita volunteered together.

A service in Mike’s name will be determined at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc 504 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.
