Laurie A. (Carruthers) Ostrowski, 63, of West Wyoming passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Scranton, daughter of the late James and Jean (Clifford) Carruthers. Laurie was a 1977 graduate of Pittston Area High School. She was employed by the Social Security Administration for 14 years as a customer communication specialist, previous to Social Security, she was a telecommunicator for 14 years at the Luzerne County 911 call center. She was a social member of the VFW-Wyoming and a social member of the West Side Social Club in Avoca. Laurie loved to spend time with her family more than anything else, especially with her grandchildren.
She loved her chocolate lab Dexter, telling stories of family trips to Long Beach Island and Keuka Lake, and she always looked forward to the Clifford Family Reunion during the last weekend of July each year.
Laurie had a unique ability to bring people together and to make them feel special. She will be forever loved by her husband, family, and all those who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 22 years, James Ostrowski, her children; Michael Ostrowski (Cory) of Boca Raton, FL, David Ostrowski (Kiki) of Exeter, Margaret Edmonds (Bernard) of Pittston, grandchildren; Benjamin Ostrowski and Sloane Edmonds and brother; James Carruthers (Lanette) of Sneads Ferry, NC.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 9:30 AM from the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Avenue Wyoming with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at the Parish of Saint Monica, 363 West 8th Street, West Wyoming with Father Peter Tomczak, celebrant.
Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.
Friends may call on Friday, February 24, from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Laurie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or DAV-Disabled American Veterans Association, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
