Joseph M. Tomsak, 76, a life-long resident of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2022, at home surrounded by his children after a brief illness.

Born December 23, 1945, he was the son of the late Marshall and Josephine (Vitonovec) Tomsak. He was a graduate of West Wyoming High School, Class of 1963.

He served in the United States Navy, both actively and with the Naval Reserves, before officially retiring in 2005 with the title of Chief Yeoman. He was employed by United Parcel Service for 26 years before his untimely retirement in 1999 due to health reasons. He was a member of Saint Monica’s Parish, West Wyoming.

He was an avid fan of his Philadelphia sports teams, and thoroughly enjoyed fishing, the casino, and going on countless family vacations.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, was his wife Margaret (Cookie) Tomsak.

Surviving are his sons, Thomas and his wife Amy, Exeter, Robert, West Wyoming, daughter Laura Tomsak, Stamford, Conn. Grandchildren, Sara and Megan Tomsak, Exeter and several cousins.

The family would like to sincerely thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart and all of their nurses, for the wonderful care they provided during the final stages of his life.

Funeral service will be held Monday January 31, 2022 at 9:30am from the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc 504 Wyoming Avenue Wyoming with a mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Monica’s Parish 363 West 8th Street West Wyoming, with Fr. Peter Tomczak and Fr. Paul McDonnell, OSJ officiating.

Interment will be in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Friends may call 4pm to 7pm on Sunday, January 30, at Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 613 Baltimore Drive, suite 3, Wilkes-Barre, Pa 18702.
