John R. English

John R. English 89, of West Pittston, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

John was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to the late John and Francis Charney English. He graduated from West Wyoming High School in 1954 and went on to earn an Associate's degree from Lasalle University. He started his career as a bookkeeper working for Alleghany Shipping then Acme Warehouse for over 20 years.

He was an eternal optimist, hard worker, care taker, and animal lover. He helped with his family business selling eggs and often delivered them with his two little girls in tow. He loved his family, the Miami Dolphins, and his 1968 yellow Chrysler Newport convertible. He always said that car could fly and he did love to see how fast it would go on an open country road.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Richards English, and brother, Robert English.

John is survived by children, Melinda Jean (Michael) Gaus of Harveys Lake, and Tiffany Lee English of Wilkes-Barre, siblings, Charles (Marlyn) English of W Wyoming, and Carol Bednar of Plains, grandchildren, Jesse English, Alexander English, Zachary English, Melanie English, Aidan Gaus, Trent Gaus, and great grandchildren, Hailey and Brealynn English.

The Service for John will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc. 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6-8 PM at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc. 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Interment will follow the Service Wednesday, September 9 at the Wyoming Cemetery.
