Helga M. Wooden, 84, of Kingston, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
She was born on March 6, 1939, in Montreal, Canada, to Bjarne and Hedwig Svendsen.
Her early years were spent in Glenada, Canada and Watertown, CT, where she attended schools, graduating from Watertown High School. She enlisted in the US Army in 1957 where she met and married Vincent E. Percent. While stationed in Germany, they welcomed their beloved son, Steven. Later in life she married Paul M. Wooden and provided a loving home for him, Steven, and Paul’s two sons, Paul and Shannon.
After living in Connecticut, where they ran a successful bed and breakfast, Helga and Paul moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to her beloved sister, Lena Macareo and her family. They enjoyed many happy occasions together, especially when their sister, Greta and family visited from Montana.
Helga was a licensed HAM Radio Operator. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and caring for her family and others. Helga was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and loved singing in their choir. She enjoyed working with the Bureau of Aging. Helga also actively volunteered for the Pro-Life Center of Wilkes-Barre. Her love for the Lord showed throughout her entire life.
In addition to her parents, Helga was preceded in death by her husband Paul M. Wooden.
Helga is survived by her children, Steven Percent and wife, Barbara of Charlotte, NC, Paul V. Wooden of Thomaston, CT, Shannon R. Wooden of Washington, ME; sisters Lena Macareo, of Exeter, Greta (Peter) Deichmann of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Monica Percent , Daniel Percent, David (Ashley) Percent; great granddaughter Vivian, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 9:45 AM from Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston at 10:15 AM.

Family and friends may call Thursday, June 29 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

The Interment will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helga’s name to the Pro-Life Center of Luzerne County, 31 Hanover St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
