Geno J. Leoni, 79, formerly of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Gino and Silvia (Norcini) Leoni. He graduated from West Wyoming High School, earned an associate's degree from Wilkes-Barre Business College, and worked his entire career as a machinist at Diamond Manufacturing Co.
In addition to his parents, Geno was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Carol (Mizin) Leoni, sister, Albina Marianacci, brother-in-law, and nephew.
He is survived by his children Christine Metcalf and husband Robert of Herndon, Virginia, Gina Becerra of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Gino Leoni of Flagstaff, Arizona. He was adored by his grandchildren, John and Silvia Metcalf, who lovingly called him Nonno.
Geno was formerly a member of St. Monica’s Parish, West Wyoming, and continued his spiritual journey with a warm and welcoming community in Indiana. Geno led an inspired life of service. He was a long-time volunteer firefighter and a lifetime member of West Wyoming Hose Company #1, where he served as borough Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief, and he helped to organize the Greater Pittston Fire Mutual Aid, later serving as its President. He was a Little League coach and mini football coach, and served the borough of West Wyoming as councilman for 20 years before retirement. He helped establish fellowship groups upon relocation to Indiana and was a staunch supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Geno never met a stranger, and he forged connections and friendships everywhere he went... especially when riding in his jeep with the top off, oldies blaring on the radio.
Family and friends may call on Friday, July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. A blessing service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc. followed by entombment in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. A celebration of Geno’s life will be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at a future date.
The family would like to thank Parkview Hospice and all the Golden Years Homestead staff for the wonderful care they provided to Geno.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the West Wyoming Fire Department, 926 Shoemaker Ave., West Wyoming, PA 18644.
